World Suicide Prevention Day 2010 website
Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA) have launched a World Suicide Prevention Day 2010 website. You will find details about activities taking place around Australia on September 10th (World Suicide Prevention Day), and resources in which you can share with family, friends and co-workers whilst raising awareness and reducing the stigma of help-seeking and suicide in Australia.  For more info click here.

Family and Carers Mental Health Program
UnitingCare's Family and Carers Mental Health Program is running a free 'Managing Stress and Increasing Resilience' education course for carers and family members of those who live with a mental illness. Understanding & Supporting Carers

Carers NSW is offering free training for service providers from government and non-government services. The aim of the training is to:

  • Build the capacity of both government organisations and non government service providers in health and community care to support and work with carers, and
  • Raise the recognition of the role and value of carers in both government and non government service provision.

The ABC is building a website for people whose lives are touched by disability, a place for their issues and stories. It will be provocative, celebratory, challenging and supportive. Financial security of older women

Aimed at elderly women, the 'How Could They?' series of brochures tackles issues such as financial abuse, negotiating new relationships, going guarantor, gifts and loans, and buying a 'granny flat'.

"Older women play a critical role in supporting their families and communities. And, in an environment of increasing social and financial pressure, older women must also ensure that they do not jeopardise their own security when asked to help those they love,"  For more information click here.

 
What Works for Depression in Young People
beyondblue: the national depression initiative and experts from Orygen Youth Health Research Centre at The University of Melbourne have joined forces to produce a booklet to help young people find which treatments work and which don't. For more info click here
