What Is It?

Penrith Disabilities Resource Centre is now auspicing a new community development project which is titled "Strengthening Community Links for People with Disabilities in the Nepean Area".  The project commenced in May 2005 and is funded by the Western Sydney Area Assistance Scheme to operate for four years.

What Does It Do?

"Strengthening Community Links" focuses on issues that are relevant to people with disabilities, their carers and also their service providers who live in, or provide services to, any of the three local government areas of Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury.

The project is looking at three major areas:

  • The coordination of service delivery for people with disabilities and how it can be improved
  • Ways to improve service access for isolated communities, i.e. those in outlying areas or those who may have difficulty accessing services for cultural reasons
  • Supporting existing disability services who are interested in building onto existing services and / or develop new networks.
